My Personal Experience with Both Business Models
Before I get to which one is better, I'd like to give you insight on my own personal experience with each business.
My Run at Drop-Shipping – Affiliate Marketing vs Drop-Shipping
When I first got started in online business I got into Drop-Shipping. I had never heard of it before, but when I heard the whole concept of it; I figured it was something I could do.
I quickly created a store on Shopify and started promoting dog products. My store was called Dogs-R-Us. I know cheesy right?
Anyways, I was actually having a lot of fun at first, but I was still kind of learning all the facets of the business. There's really a lot you have to keep track of in Drop-Shipping. Customer orders, Delivery times, Refunds, the list really goes on.
I began to get really overwhelmed and honestly in the year I did Drop-Shipping for I only really made like $500. So I put my tail between my legs and gave up. I probably could have kept going and tried scaling the business, but I just felt it wasn't for me.
My Experience with Affiliate Marketing – Affiliate Marketing vs Drop-Shipping
Affiliate Marketing was something I had heard about before, but I never really gave it a shot.
So when I decided to get back into an online business, this is the route I decided to go. Affiliate Marketing appealed to me because of how simple it is. You don't need your own product, there's no keeping track of inventories, and no refunds to be handled. All you need to do is find a good offer, promote it, and send traffic to it.
As I started my journey in Affiliate Marketing, it didn't really go as planned. I had no idea what I was doing but I went through countless YouTube videos trying to learn everything I could.
Eventually, I ended up getting wrapped up in these false promise, make money online products; that got me nowhere. Long story short, I ended up making nothing and spent thousands on course methods that left me broke.
I was close to calling it quits when I happened to find a mentor, that changed everything for me. He taught me exactly what I was doing wrong and taught me the 4 step process of affiliate marketing.
After that, I started getting results. In the first month of applying those steps, I made $1400. I couldn't believe it. I was finally getting the results I wished for with just a little work and the right knowledge.
To this day I am still using those 4 steps to scale my business.
Affiliate Marketing vs Drop-Shipping – Which One is Better?
Affiliate Marketing and Drop-Shipping are both great business models, but from my experience Affiliate Marketing is better for beginners.
In my opinion, it's more of a simpler route to go for those looking to earn a permanent income online. Affiliate Marketing doesn't require any inventory, you don't need to have any technical experience, and there's no shipping involved. Affiliate Marketing also offers a lot more potential for income than Drop-Shipping.
Now don't get me wrong, some people may like Drop-Shipping better. It really just depends on what you're looking for and your own experience. But Affiliate Marketing is my clear winner in this comparison.
With that said, I always recommend people start with Affiliate Marketing first to get some experience before moving on to Drop-Shipping.
